ORCA House clinical staff been trained to use Cognitive
Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing, both of
which are evidence based best practices. Staff use these
interventions in non-medical community residential treatment,
intensive outpatient and in non intensive outpatient treatment
services.
Treatment staff helps clients to eliminate
maladaptive behaviors and learn more effective behaviors.
Staff assists clients in identifying and resolving
emotional issues that block their recovery.
Through treatment interventions, clients learn to take
responsibility for their thoughts, actions and emotions.
ORCA’s programs are abstinence based and
utilize the 12 step model for recovery.
Clients are expected to take responsibility for their
treatment and ultimately, their recovery.
Participation in support groups like AA and NA are an
integral part of the clients’ recovery.
ORCA House’s treatment approach and methods
reflect many of the features of leading programs as identified
in the United Way’s
Core Services and the Consumer Reports.
While in treatment, clients are linked with variety of
programs which address multiple issues.
ORCA coordinates services with mental health agencies,
social service agencies, primary health care providers and other
service providers to assist clients in meeting their needs.
Per the United Way’s Core Services and Consumer
Reports, ORCA’s treatment methods are also reflective of
effective interventions nationwide.
ORCA provides group therapy and education as well as
relapse prevention services.
Staff focus on helping clients re-connect with their life
skills and to develop skills that will enable them to gain
employment. For
example, clients are expected to be on time for groups, follow
through on treatment assignments and participate in the upkeep
of the treatment facility.
ORCA House works cooperatively with a
number of other organizations who provide services on site.
These relationships allow ORCA to provide holistic
services which comprehensively address consumers’ needs and life
issues.
ORCA House will continue to identify and
become proficient with evidence based and best practices.
ORCA plans on having staff trained in trauma sensitive therapies
in FY ’12.
